“The purpose of our lives is to be happy.”

~ Dalai Lama

Living a happy life is everyone’s dream. How to live a happy life? Life is stupendously confusing. Once we grow, we are in constant comparison state. We all think that money brings all the happiness, but it does not. So how to be happier? Let’s try to find out this hidden gem of our life.

There are many people who have 6 figures income, a well-furnished home and good family still suffering from depression and anxiety. They are unhappy with their life.

Agree, that money can fulfill your basic needs. You have food when you want to eat. There is a shelter on your head when it’s too cold outside. But to have real happiness and utter satisfaction for your life, you need to rethink.

You need to learn how you can make a more simplified and happy lifestyle. A simple lifestyle makes a more happy life. How? A simple lifestyle is not just about spending money on a budget. It means you are not competing or compelling other’s lifestyle and create a more happy life you want.

Simplicity in your life can bring peace and real satisfaction about what you have which bring long-lasting happiness. That’s why I insist to make a more simplified life first.

Here are 10 habits you should develop today to live a more simplified and happy life:

1. Declutter

“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”

~ Confucius

Yes, this is the first and real-life hack. Either you are so much worried or overwhelmed that you take extra load of everything. For example at home, you purchase more than the required items just as you saw the “SALE” label. Which directly affect your monthly budget. Apparently, you are more stressed out in future.

To live a more happy life, you should de-clutter your life today and make a happier life every day.

Why do I need to declutter?

Many times we just buy things without any real purpose. Slowly this cultivates as a habit. We worry so much about the extra things we buy. They are really the extra stuff which over the time became useless or damaged. Decluttering creates a real space in your workplace and home. Which offers a positive ambiance as you don’t have to think much on such extra items.

How to declutter?

The best method is to keep asking yourself Do I really need this? If you think it’s a real need to purchase it. You can make a list of items which you didn’t use since last 1 year or more than that. The items include everything like your clothing, kitchen items, any appliance, your ever-growing paper stack etc.

You must have kinds of stuff that make a sense to own it. You can do a monthly trash bag exercise and throw out the excessive things.

When we purchase the things only we need, we automatically adopt a minimalist approach in life. Which leads to a more simplified lifestyle where we don’t have to worry much about money and savings. The more simple life you have, the less chance to get stress. And you will live a more happy life by developing this habit.

2. Do Some Planning

This one is the toughest thing you have to do. Planning is a real key to happiness. No matter what is your job role – a highly paid executive or a stay at home mom, you need to plan things in advance.

How much do you plan? Never think about it? You are doing planning from your student life. Seriously!!! You plan to find time for extra activities, preparing projects and presentations, hanging out with friends, don’t you?

We all do little bit planning at every stage of life. So why not today? Try to identify your major tasks, and make a plan for it. For example, a mom is more stressed and confused about meal preparation as she needs to take care monthly budget too. Plan the grocery list and other items and stick to that.

You can use any planning method like calendar, free sheets, putting stickers, making notes, download apps(like Trello) etc. to make a good plan and make a happy life. So, develop a habit of planning and create a happier life.

3. Practice Small Wins

“If world problems feel too big to tackle, think small. Step by step. Small wins build confidence, lead the way to change.”

~ Rosabeth Moss Kanterlem

Do you know what’s your biggest problem? You want to complete the biggest task first. Every time you choose the most difficult task to complete first. If you do not succeed, you are demotivated. You start thinking of yourself as a loser and now don’t have enough courage go ahead. This leads to constant self-doubt. Your self-image is now blurred.

Let’s try one simple trick. Do the easiest thing first. Yes, plan the things you can do easily in beginning. Now, you have small wins. Practice such small wins, they are necessary for great success in the future.

Imagine, you start a day with 3 tasks and you accomplish all of them. Wonderful!!! You just did it!!! Now try the toughest one. Your confidence is now boosted and you have a positive mindset to get success. Surprisingly you can do the same difficult task more efficiently.

Human nature is quite complex. If you start with a failure, you never ever think to get success. Practice such small wins at your home and office. This one creates a magical difference in your life and leads you to live a happy life.

Bonus Tip: It’s important to celebrate your small wins. The day you start celebrating your own success you really feel a happy life. Otherwise, you always concentrate on who is ahead rather than being happy with your current position.

“In this life, we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love.”
